In this volunteer position you will be working in different activities related to marine conservation developed by the project, but not all the time will be spent in the field; you also spend half of the time and sometimes most of the time in the environmental education program depending on the season.

Sea turtle:
Volunteers measure and tag turtles, patrol diurnal and nocturnal inside or outside Machalilla National Park, egg and nest counting, install transmitters, capture and recapture. The sea turtle season is from October to May.

Seabird and Sharks:
Volunteers work all year to watch nesting; take a census of different species, obtain nest GPS and data collection. Shark activities are census taking, identification and measurement of the captured sharks.

Environmental education:
Volunteers pick up trash at the beach of Puerto Lopez and Isla Portete and surroundings, prep and plan environmental activities for the children at the school, which is open during all year. From October to May you will combine all the activities mentioned.
However, from the end of May to September the sea turtle program is not available. All the activities are subject to change according to the project and school needs. This volunteer position has a particular start date; volunteers may join each Monday of every month.
